Paintings from this Summer/Fall

Thick Forest in Autumn

Stacked Triptych.  These paintings look great on a small, narrow wall in a house.  I found they bring life to those lifeless corners that are too small for a larger painting.

This was a commission for a couple who had red furniture in their living room.  This was hung above their love seat and it really tied in the colors in the room.  I loved how they coordinated it.

Simple and crisp.  This was a commission for a woman who liked the colors in my work, but wanted something that had less going on.

I was in our family cabin when I painted this one.  My sister just moved into a log house and I was painting this for her.  If you look out the window of the cabin you can see some of my inspiration.

Autumn Inspiration

My First Solo Art Show.  Here is the Poster.

Standing beside one of the canvases that was as tall as me.  I felt like I was in a forest as I was painting it.

This diptych was of a view from an old rundown cabin on a lake in the NWT.

Some Commissions in 2013

This was the most challenging and wonderful commission I have had yet as an artist.  A couple asked me if I would help them design a very unique painting that would fill up a large wall they had in their house.  We came up with this.  The couple built the canvas frames and I stretch the canvas and painted on them.  It looked better hung on their yellow wall, but here is a picture of it on the wall I painted it on.

A commission done for a friend who loves the colors of Autumn.  It was a larger canvas.  4x8 feet.

Here is a commissioned piece that I painted for a neighbour.  They ordered it around Christmas time and I can't help but think that the season might have had an impacted on the colors chosen too.  They hung it on a 20 foot high wall above a fireplace.  It looks great.

Paintings For an Art Expo

I had the privilege to enter into an art expo in Yellowknife.  All the artists get together and rent a large space and fill it with all their work.  It was a lot of fun meeting so many art lovers in the community.

This painting is a diptych.  The woman who bought it was hanging it in a sun filled room so I sprayed it with a uv protective coat.  It looked wonderful hanging in such a bright space.

This picture doesn't capture the painting well.  The canvas was 6 feet tall and 1 foot wide, making it hard to photograph.  I personally love how yellow and a burnt looking red look together.  The couple who bought this piece hung it in an entryway by their stairs.

Yellow Forest

Red Forest

This painting was done for a woman who had bought 5 of my paintings.  Her favourite color was red so I thought I'd paint this small canvas for her as a Christmas present.  I know birch leaves aren't red... But this is one advantage with painting a picture instead of taking a picture.

Ice Castle Show

I had an incredible opportunity in March to have 12 of my pieces exhibited an ice castle.  The "Snow King" builds it every year in Yellowknife on Great Slave Lake and it usually holds over 100 people.  We drove 8 inch spikes into the snow walls and hung the work.

The paintings jumped off the walls because they looked so bright against the snow with the natural sunlight coming in.
